Vampire: The Masquerade is a game of personal horror. In this game, you uncover the horrors of a hidden world, struggle with the monster within, and bear the weight of the things that must be done.

You were never meant to be. You were murdered and awoke to this deathless twilight. You were supposed to be a Vampire, one of the Kindred, but the Blood didn't quite take. You are a Thinblood, something between vampire and human, a Duskborn. The vampire that created you left you adrift in the darkness once they realized what you are. In your alien flesh there is little warmth, only the Hunger and you must drink the blood of the living, or risk the consequences of losing yourself to the Beast, slumbering deep within.

You and the other thinbloods you've met along this journey have been hunted, persecuted, and branded as an infection in need of eradication by the "True Kindred." You were forced to abandon all you know to flee your destruction either at the hands of the vampires or their human hunters. You've travelled by train and on foot for months, and every city you've come across was already flooded with the growing numbers of your kind. Having paid every last dollar you and the others had, you've stowed away in the bowels of a freighter ship bound for Reykjavik, Iceland. You're chasing tall tales of Iceland being a haven for thinbloods and following others that have made it. Iceland's weather and population make it undesirable territory for The Kindred, who've yet to sink their teeth into it. You hope you'll arrive soon, but in the darkness of the shipping container, you don't know how many days or hours have passed, but the Hunger remains.
